Dolomite

The mineral dolomite crystallizes in the trigonal-rhombohedral system. It forms white, tan, gray, or pink crystals. Dolomite is a double carbonate, having an alternating structural arrangement of calcium and magnesium ions. It does not rapidly dissolve or effervesce (fizz) in dilute hydrochloric acid as calcite does. Crystal twinning is very common in dolomite

Dolomite is substantially less reactive to acid than calcite in typical marbles, which makes it a preferable choice for kitchen applications.

Even though dolomite is substantially less reactive to acid, some reaction may still occur if material is not sealed properly or material is not maintained properly after installation. Proper and heavy duty sealer is recommended.

Applications: Interior Flooring; Interior Walls; Tops (Non- Kitchen)

Sandstone

A clastic sedimentary rock comprising an aggregate of sand-sized (0.06–2.0-mm) fragments of minerals, rocks, or fossils held together by mineral cement. Sandstone forms when sand is buried under successive layers of sediment. During burial the sand is compacted, and a binding agent such as quartz, calcite, or iron oxide is precipitated from ground water which moves through passageways between grains. Textural attributes of sandstone are the same as those for sand, and they have the same genetic significance.

Applications: Interior Flooring; Interior Walls; Tops (Non- Kitchen)

Schist

The word schist is derived from the Greek meaning "to split", which is in reference to the ease with which schists can be split along the plane in which the platy minerals lie.
Schists are frequently used in building houses or walls, as many are quite durable and strong. However it should be noted that many foundation problems with buildings both large and small are due to the Schist decaying or even the failure of the mortar. This in turn lets water into the joints thus weakening the schist further.

Schist lends itself towards landscaping and walling applications which creates detail and beauty. It can also be used for flooring, paving, driveways.

Applications: Interior Flooring; Interior Walls; Tops (Non- Kitchen)
